About Us Brooksdale is a family owned farm of approximately 1000 hectares. Its principle activity is Superfine Merino wool. Brooksdale runs between 8-10,000 Merino sheep at any given time. For fifty years the sheep were based on 'Sierra Park' lines. Since 2000 'Rockbank' blood has been introduced to the flock through an artificial insemination program using the top sires of 'Softy,' 'Roberto', 'Sturgeon 40', 'Bruiser' and 'Mr Silky'. Autumn shearing occurs during April/May of each year. Fleeces average 17 microns, the finest being in the low 15 microns. The Fry's sell around 200 bales of wool each year through our wool brokers, Elders in Melbourne. Alongside the Superfine Merinos, the property carries around 120 Shorthorn cattle. The line has been based lately using Shorthorn bulls from Ray Brook's 'Eloora' stud at Cavendish. During the first year of calving, Shorthorn heifers are crossed with Angus bulls.
